Reducing nitrogen emissions: this is how you go about it

Nitrogen emissions are becoming an enormous problem all over the world. This social problem is creating a lot of uncertainty for anybody running an agricultural business. Don’t wait any longer, but take action now to future-proof your farm. So, how do you reduce your nitrogen emissions? How do you make your own fertiliser? And how do you prepare for the future? JOZ’s innovations were devised to help you.

Reduce nitrogen emissions with JOZ

Innovation is the key to becoming and remaining successful in the future. Do you want to expand or further develop your farm? Then you’ll often find this goes hand-in-hand with increased nitrogen emissions. That means you, as somebody running an agricultural business, have to take measures to limit your emissions as much as possible.

Fortunately, JOZ has the perfect solution available; the Gazoo nitrogen cracker and the Separator. With this equipment, you can reduce your nitrogen emissions by 80% and make your own fertiliser. An innovation that saves you from reducing your herd by 50%, and saves you considerably on fertiliser.

The power of innovation

Cut your herd in half… a nightmare scenario for anybody involved in farming. But with a Gazoo nitrogen cracker in your yard, you can significantly reduce your emissions. A separator first separates the manure into a thin fraction and a thick fraction, after which the nitrogen cracker can get to work. The cracker extracts the ammonia from the thin fraction by adding a base and evaporating the product. During evaporation, 2 products are created: ammonia (gaseous form) and residual water.

In the second phase, the released ammonia is collected and processed. An acid (nitric acid, sulphuric acid or an organic acid for biological fertiliser) is added to the ammonia to create Biogrow, a liquid fertiliser. Depending on the acid used, Biogrow contains at least 15% nitrogen and has a pH of around 6. By separating manure and using the nitrogen cracker, you can make liquid fertiliser from the ammonia released by animal manure. That’s the power of innovation: reducing nitrogen and CO2 emissions by cracking manure and producing your own fertiliser.

The advantages of a separator and nitrogen cracker

  • Reduction of ammonia
  • Lower expense on buying fertiliser
  • Nitrogen in liquid form is absorbed better and faster
  • 20% more space in the manure pit
  • No shrinkage

Laws and regulations on manure processing

Separating manure is a form of manure processing. You may be required to keep extra information in your records for this. Always check with your farm advisor.

Circular Farming with JOZ

The solutions we develop at JOZ are based on the Circular Farming principle. With Circular Farming, we’re looking to close the loop between manure and a valuable product. For example, we valorise organic manure by transforming it into mineral fertilisers, which takes pressure of both the farmer and the environment.

Circular Farming is centred around the cow, as she is at both the beginning and the end of the loop. JOZ’s solutions are linked to the lives of cows throughout the day.
